Paul Gascoigne gave himself a glimmer of an England chance after inspiring Everton to a victory over Southampton which pushed them into ninth spot in the Premiership.

Tomasz Radzinski and Mark Pembridge grabbed the goals but it was the 34-year-old’s influence and skills helped which secure a 2-0 victory over a Saints side that collapsed in the second half against the Gazza-inspired Toffees.
