George Best has been released from a Limassol clinic after recovering from a viral infection.

Best was taken to the clinic on Thursday suffering from a fever and a gastrointestinal tract infection.

But the 55-year-old has recovered and is now back at his five-star hotel with wife Alex.

"Mr Best was released from the clinic with his symptoms treated and he is in good spirits," said Dr Andreas Stylianides.

Stylianides said Best had responded well to a treatment of antibiotics, relaxation and hot fluids.

The cause of the viral infection is unknown but the doctor said that Best was more prone to falling ill because of his history of alcohol abuse.
