Liverpool go top of the Premiership thanks to this battling victory over Sunderland.

The only goal came from Emile Heskey after 21 minutes when he headed home a Danny Murphy free-kick. The home side had to play with 10 men after Dieter Hamann was sent off for violent conduct just before half-time.
