Premiership: Houllier's involved in team selection - Thompson

Phil Thompson says Gerard Houllier is heavily involved in Liverpool's team selection.

Houllier is currently at home recovering from heart surgery.

But assistant manager, Phil Thompson, admitted that the Frenchman is taking a much more active role in team affairs at Anfield.

Thompson said: "Gerard is getting more and more involved. He's getting strong and we talk openly now about team selection.

"We are selecting the team now between both of us, but he's taking a more active part."

The midweek defeat by Barcelona was Thompson's first since he took caretaker control in Houllier's absence, but Liverpool are still unbeaten in eight league matches.

He said: "It had been a long time since Liverpool had lost and we want to make sure it is a long time before it happens again. You win titles with consistency, and that's what we are aiming at."
