Roy Makaay smashed home an unstoppable drive after a mix-up in the Arsenal penalty box on nine minutes.

Diego Tristan doubled Deportivo's lead by easily beating Richard Wright.

Wright got substituted by Stuart Taylor at half-time but the Gunners never looked like scoring in the second-half.
