Liverpool have been given an extra seven days to prepare their defence over an alleged breach of rules in the signing of German utility player Christian Ziege from Middlesbrough.

The Reds were charged last month by the Premier League over the £5.5m transfer which was completed in August 2000. The Teesside club claimed Liverpool had made an illegal approach for Ziege.
