Surprise goal-scorer of the day was Aston Villa 'keeper Peter Schmeichel who scored at Everton but it wasn't enough as the home side won out 3-2.

West Ham eased the pressure on manager Glenn Roeder thanks to two goals by Frederick Kanoute against Southampton.

Elsewhere, Derby and Charlton played out a 1-1 draw.
