Peter Shreeves has today resigned as manager of Sheffield Wednesday after just six months in charge.

Shreeves took over as caretaker in February following the sacking of Paul Jewell and after a string of good results was handed the role on a permanent basis on May 4.

But with the Owls just one off the bottom in the First Division and with just one win from their opening 13 league matches, Shreeves has decided to quit, with last night’s 2-1 home defeat to Preston the final straw.

Assistant manager Terry Yorath has taken temporary charge.
