Premiership: Bassett unveiled as new Leicester boss

Dave Bassett has been unveiled as manager of Leicester City, with Micky Adams as his assistant.

Former Brighton boss Adams has signed a contract until June 2004 and will take over as manager when Bassett's deal expires in 2003.

Morale is low at Filbert Street after Tuesday night's 6-0 defeat at home to Leeds in the Worthington Cup, and the Foxes currently prop up the Premiership.

But Bassett, who has ended a 10-month exile from management since leaving Barnsley, has vowed to fight to keep the club in the top flight.

Bassett said: "Obviously I'm delighted. It's going to be a difficult task - but that's why I'm being given the opportunity.

"If Leicester were up at the top of the table myself and Micky wouldn't be given the chance. Our objective and target is to keep Leicester in the Premiership."
