Premiership: Brighton boss to be Foxes assistant

Brighton have confirmed Micky Adams is leaving the club to take up the post of assistant manager at Leicester City.

It is believed the outgoing Seagulls boss will team up with Dave Bassett, who is expected to be appointed as the new manager at Filbert Street shortly.

Leicester chairman John Elsom made a formal approach to his Brighton counterpart, Dick Knight, on Monday, seeking permission to speak to Adams.

Knight said: "Leicester have done everything by the book, and I have agreed the terms of a compensation package for the release of Micky from his Brighton contract."

Adams guided Brighton to the Third Division title last season and looks set to team up with the 57-year-old Bassett at Filbert Street.

Knight added: "It pains me to say so, but the lure of the Premiership is even stronger than the excellent working relationship Micky and I have had over the past two-and-a-half years.

But no one person is bigger than this club and with another quality manager and the new stadium at Falmer the priorities, we will continue to take the Albion forward."

Adams, who worked as number two to Bassett at Nottingham Forest in 1997-98, admitted joining a Premiership club was fulfilling an ambition.

He said: "In a way this is a devastating blow for me because I'm very happy at Brighton. But having said that I am ambitious and I want to work in the Premiership.

I was disappointed in the summer that I didn't get the opportunity to be interviewed for a couple of jobs. Perhaps the only way I could get into a Premiership club is by doing it this way."
