Eircom League: Monaghan win but stay bottom

Darren McKenna's late winner earned Monaghan United their first win of the

season against ten-man Dundalk.

Dundalk's hope of getting something from a tight north-east derby were

dealt a blow a minute before the interval when striker John Ryan was sent

off for a late challenge on Monaghan goalkeeper Robbie Forde.

Monaghan's winner arrived ten minutes from time. Derek McGrath's through

ball split the Dundalk defence and McKenna shot home.

The win wasn't enough to lift Monaghan off the bottom of the table, however.
