Soccer: Win for Under-21's against Cyprus
Don Givens' Republic of Ireland Under 21's ended their World Cup qualifying
campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over Cyprus last night.
Givens had called the changes after it was clear that the team could not progress to the finals even if they did win last night, with nine players making their debuts at this level.
All three goals came in the second half as Celtic's Michael Doyle scored two and Nottingham Forest's Andy Reid scored the third.
The win will come as a huge relief to Givens and points to a bright future for these players most of whom will be eligible for the next European Championships at U-21 level.
