Ex-Bohemians manager Roddy Collins has brought one of his former charges at Dalymount Park to his new club, Carlisle United.

18-year-old William McDonagh has agreed a two-year deal and although no transfer fee has been paid, United will have to pay a substantial compensation fee for the player.

Collins said he was delighted with the capture of McDonagh, who he described as a player for the future. "He's an excellent prospect and a number of clubs, including a Premiership one, were interested," Collins said.

"He won't go into the first team until about January or February, hopefully he'll be ready by then, so I've really taken him on for his potential."

Collins also revealed that he is hopeful of agreeing a loan deal for another Irishman, Wimbledon defender Des Byrne, soon.

The 20-year-old has just finished a loan period with Second Division side Cambridge and Collins wants him at Brunton Park.

Earlier this week, Collins' brother and former boxing champion Steve, had been linked with a possible purchase of the financially strapped club.
