Eircom League: Rovers go joint second

Longford Town 1, Shamrock Rovers 2 (full-time)

Goals in each half from Derek Tracey and Sean Francis put Rovers joint-second

in the table.

The Hoops survived some early Town pressure to take a 26th minute lead.

Billy Woods' shot was blocked and skipper Tracey found the net with a 25 yard

right-footer.

Pascal Vaudequin then played Francis in for the second five minutes after the

break.

Town rallied late on and Sean Prunty gave them hope with a goal back on 78

minutes, but Rovers held on for a deserved win.
