Premiership: United linked with Campo move

Manchester United are targeting Real Madrid defender Ivan Campo as a replacement for Jaap Stam.

Campo's agent Miguel Angel Cermeno insisted that Campo is on a hit-list drawn up by United.

United are attempting to fill the vacancy left by the Dutchman, who has sealed his £16.5m move to Lazio.

Cermano said: "I know that Manchester United have an unofficial list with Ivan Campo and Laurent Blanc's names."

United's possible bid for Inter defender Blanc could hit a stumbling block with the impending closure of the Serie A transfer window.

But Alex Ferguson will be anxious to tie up a deal this week as the registrations for this season's Champions League must reach Fifa by its Saturday deadline.

The Campo situation is also complicated by Inter's own interest in the player.

Cermeno added: "Inter have made a formal offer to buy Ivan Campo but Real Madrid rejected it. Hector Cuper wanted Ivan Campo because he managed him at Mallorca.

"I do not know if Manchester United have contacted Real Madrid because Jorge Valdano (Real Madrid's manager) is away on holiday."
