Soccer: Injuries cut Curbishley’s choices

Alan Curbishley is without a host of regular first-teamers as Charlton start the new season at home to Everton.

Alan Curbishley is without a host of regular first-teamers as Charlton start the new season at home to Everton.

Captain Mark Kinsella and Welsh winger John Robinson are recovering from operations, Mathias Svensson and Radostin Kishishev will both miss the opening three months of the campaign with long-term injuries and Claus Jensen’s bruised foot has not healed in time.

Meanwhile, centre-back Richard Rufus is serving the last match of a three-game ban imposed for his sending-off against Aston Villa last season.

As a result of the decimation to the midfield, record £4.75million signing Jason Euell will drop back from attack while Luke Young will make his debut at right-back.

Squad (from): Bartlett, Brown, Euell, Fish, Fortune, Ilic, Johansson, Kiely, Konchesky, Lisbie, Mendonca, Parker, Peacock, Powell, Salako, Stuart, Todd, Young.
