Premiership: Fulham break record in £7m van der Sar coup
Fulham have shattered their transfer record as they shelled out around £7m to sign Holland international goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar from Juventus.
The giant 30-year-old has agreed a four-year deal with the Premiership new boys, subject to a medical in London on Wednesday.
The deal represents a huge coup for Fulham manager Jean Tigana.
Van der Sar's fee is officially 'undisclosed', but is believed to be substantially more than the £4m paid to Newcastle for French defender Alain Goma in March.
The Cottagers and Juve released a joint statement confirming the shock move, after a series of top-secret meetings and telephone conversations between Tigana and the 6ft 5in shot-stopper.
Tigana said: "We are delighted to welcome Edwin to Fulham. His playing ability has been proven at the highest level both domestically and internationally - and we believe he will be a great asset to the squad."
Former Ajax keeper Van der Sar will jet into the capital to complete his transfer but will not feature in the pre-season friendly at Crystal Palace.
Van der Sar's place at the Stadio delle Alpi was thrown into doubt after Juve's recent big-money signing of Parma's Italian international keeper Gianluigi Buffon.
