Soccer: Hendrie vows to slow down

Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has vowed not to return to life in the fast lane after splashing out over £60,000 on another new Porsche - 12 months after he came close to death in a horrifying motorway incident.

Hendrie had a lucky escape last July when his previous beloved Porsche shot off the M6 and down a sheer 80 feet drop - he walked free with only minor injuries.

That dice with death, just hours before Villa were set to fly out for an Intertoto Cup match in the Czech Republic, led to the one-time England player receiving a verbal blast from Villa manager John Gregory.

Hendrie said: ‘‘There is no way anything like that is going to happen. I love Porsches. I always have ever since I was a kid and I always wanted another one.

‘‘But I would never ever put myself into that position again. I am far more responsible, far more careful.

‘‘What happened last year shook me up a lot. It was horrible. I never want to go through anything like that again.

‘‘It was the low point in what turned out to be a very disappointing year for me. But I learned from my mistakes.’’
