Soccer: Fergie reflects on job well done

Not even the interminable flight home from Bangkok would have been enough to lessen Sir Alex Ferguson’s satisfaction as he reflected on Manchester United’s successful Far East tour.

United’s three-match tour of Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand could hardly have gone much better for the Reds manager.

Dwight Yorke scored the winner in the 2-1 victory against Thailand in Bangkok’s Rajmangala Stadium to make it three wins out of three.

That was United’s 16th goal on tour and Ferguson is also pleased by how well new boys Ruud van Nistelrooy and Juan Veron have bedded into the team.

Commercially the tour was a great success and it has strengthened United’s pre-eminence as the best-supported club in this region.

But most importantly for Ferguson, he feels his players are coming along well as they build up their match-fitness in preparation for the big kick-off against Fulham on August 19.

Ferguson said: ‘‘It was very hot and humid against Thailand, but I thought the players did well.’’
