Copa America: Copa fails to excite fans
The opening quarter-final games at the Copa America failed to pull the crowds.
Nearly one-third of the seats were empty at the two matches on Sunday, said Jose Lazaro of the Brazilian company Traffic, which owns the marketing rights to the tournament.
In those games, Mexico defeated Chile 2-0 in Pereira, while Uruguay beat Costa Rica 2-1 in Armenia.
"Originally they told me that all the tickets had been sold, but that wasn't so. I'm disappointed," Lazaro said.
By contrast, he said, ticket demand was hot during the first round in Cali, where Brazil, Mexico, Paraguay and Peru played in the so-called "Group of Death."
The tournament's Organizing Committee announced that all 50,000 tickets have been sold for Sunday's final at the El Campin stadium in Bogota.
