Cyber Beckham makes computer game debut
David Beckham is set to shoot to cyber-stardom as a computer game hero.
A virtual version of the 26-year-old, complete with his latest Mohican hairstyle, features in a new football game.
The real Beckham tipped off the game's creators about his plans for a new hairdo so they could make the game more realistic. They have also produced an image with shaven head in case he goes back to his old style.
Beckham said: "In my free time I love playing on computer games, like most footballers. I must admit, though, it will be strange playing a game with an image of me on the screen.
"Who knows, I might even pick up a few helpful tips to improve my game."
Beckham has signed a lucrative three-year deal with computer giants Rage to help develop David Beckham Soccer and other games.
The game includes a training section in which the virtual Beckham coaches players on how to perfect his trademark skills, including corners and free kicks.
Rage said they were delighted to have Beckham on board but would be keeping a close eye on his visits to the hairdresser.
A spokesman said: "We are working very closely with David to ensure the virtual image is portrayed as accurately and as up-to-date as possible within our games. David is a fantastic role model for kids nowadays.
"We've just got to keep our fingers crossed that he doesn't go for a Keegan perm or a Seaman-style pony-tail."
