Soccer: Pars in with UEFA Cup Fair Play shot

Dunfermline Athletic will discover on Wednesday if they are to be handed a wildcard UEFA Cup place.

The Pars are one of 11 teams whose names will go into a draw on that day at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

Three UEFA Cup qualifying places will go to teams via the fair play rankings, with Shakhtior Soligorsk already assured of one because Belarus topped the poll to take the single automatic slot.

Scotland came a close second and Jimmy Calderwood's team was chosen for the draw because they were runners-up in the domestic fair play table, which was won by Celtic, who are already bound for the Champions League.

Newcastle United are also among the 11 hopefuls, with Bobby Robson's side having qualified by coming third behind Ipswich Town and Manchester United in the Premiership fair play table.

Kilmarnock were picked out of the hat two seasons ago and one of this season's lucky picks, Rayo Vallecano of Spain, went on to reach the quarter-final.

Other clubs in the draw are IFK Norrkoping (Sweden), Neuchatel Xamax (Switzerland), Tromos (Norway), Vaklga (Estonia), My-Pa47 (Finland), Teplice (Czech Republic) and IBV (Iceland).

Slovakia and Ukraine's representatives have yet to be decided.

National associations whose fair play ratings topped the eight-point mark qualify for the draw.

England were ninth.
