Soccer: Williamson delighted to secure Uefa spot

Kilmarnock manager Bobby Williamson was in great spirits after his side defeated Celtic 1-0 to secure a Uefa Cup place.

The Ayrshire outfit needed a victory to book their tickets for Europe and they did so through an 83rd-minute goal from Alan Mahood.

Although Celtic fielded a weakened side, Williamson was still very content with the victory.

Williamson beamed: "I'm delighted for the fans. I wanted to give them European football and we've managed to do that.

"We are in Europe now and I'm very pleased for everybody concerned.

"It's a hard life this - just look at me. To get a result like that against the champions is just great.

"Everybody knows what the club means to me and I'd like to stay here for a lot longer than my contract.

"It's a real rollercoaster ride in football and the fans can go against you at times, but I try and please.

"I did know Hearts were winning, but I didn't know when the goals had come, but we managed to get the goal.

"Paul Di Giacomo did well and Alan Mahood managed to get a taxi into the box to get on the end of it."
