Bohemians are champions following a day of high drama in the Eircom League.

Bohs had to beat Kilkenny City and hope that Shels lost to Cork City in order to take the title.

Roddy Collins men fulfilled their part of the bargain - scoring five goals to thrash Kilkenny City and leave their fate in the hands of Shels.

Disaster struck for Shels at Tolka Park on the stroke of half-time when Cahill struck for Cork City to put the Munster side into the lead.

At half-time it was Shels 0, Cork City 1 and Kilkenny 0, Bohs 1.

The score remained the same at Tolka Park for the second half. However, Bohs put four past the Kilkenny keeper in the second half and then had an anxious wait for the final whistle at Tolka Park.

They are now champions for the first time since 1979.
