Soccer: McCarthy 'disappointed' at O'Byrne retirement

Mick McCarthy has said he is "disappointed" at the impending retirement of FAI chief executive Bernard O'Byrne.

O'Byrne, who has held the position for the past four and a half years, will step down next week after last night's FAI meeting which discussed his use of an Association credit card.

McCarthy described him as "extremely professional and likeable" and said the Association had lost a good man.

He added that he hopes the new chief executive will carry out his duties as well as O'Byrne did.
