Premiership: Keane to get four-match ban

Roy Keane will not face any more punishment that the mandatory three-match ban for his latest red card.

However, the fact that it was his second dismissal of the season means he will be banned for four matches, which will rule him out of the start of next season.

The Manchester United skipper was sent off in Saturday's derby with Manchester City for a high tackle on Alfie Haland.

But although the violent tackle sent shock waves through the soccer world, Keane will not be brought to book over the incident by the game's governing body.

A spokesman for the Football Association said: "We have not seen the referee's report yet. However, assuming Roy Keane was sent off for violent conduct, it will constitute the mandatory three-match suspension."

Keane was also dismissed in the FA Charity Shield at the beginning of the season. So Saturday's second red card of the campaign means he will be suspended for an extra match.

The ban applies only to the Premiership, so United will start the defence of their Premiership crown next season without their influential skipper.

Keane's red card was the eighth sending off of his eight-year Manchester United career and the fourth time he has been dismissed by referee David Elleray.
