Soccer: Iversen released from hospital

Tottenham striker Steffen Iversen was today released from hospital but is almost certain to miss the game at Sunderland on Saturday.

The Norwegian international was knocked out in a collision with Bradford defender Andy Myers during last night’s Premiership clash at White Hart Lane.

Iversen, who had his neck put in a brace, was carried off on a stretcher and spent the night in hospital.

He is now back home resting, but is unlikely to play for Spurs during the Easter weekend programme.

Tottenham assistant manager John Gorman said: ‘‘Steffen came out of hospital this morning and is now back at home resting.

‘‘He is feeling a bit groggy and it looks like he will be out of action for a few days at least.

‘‘As far as we know, it was just concussion, but he will see a specialist and will also be assessed daily by our club doctor.

‘‘We shall take each day as it comes, and hopefully we shall have a clearer picture tomorrow.’’

It is the second time Iversen has suffered such an injury in the past three weeks, as he was also knocked out while playing for his country.

The injury adds to new Spurs manager Glenn Hoddle’s woes, as he is also without striker Les Ferdinand, who has a hamstring injury.
