Soccer: Socceroos hit new highs

World records tumbled as Australia annihilated American Samoa 31-0 in an Oceania World Cup qualifier.

Striker Archie Thompson bagged 13 goals as the free-scoring Socceroos easily surpassed their record-breaking 22-0 rout of Tonga on Monday.

Thompson's tally was the most by one player in a competitive international - beating the previous individual best of 10 - while the winning margin was the biggest in a first-class international - bettering the record set by Australia 48 hours earlier.
