Soccer: Sheringham set to accept one-year United deal
Teddy Sheringham has indicated he is ready to accept a new 12-month contract at Manchester United.
The 35-year-old striker was believed to be holding out for a two-year deal.
It had been reported he could be a target for Tottenham, but now it now appears Sheringham will continue to battle for a first-team place at United.
"A 12-month deal keeps me quite happy because if I am not in the team and not playing I wouldn't want to be here," Sheringham said.
"A year-to-year situation for me at my age is quite right. You have to take things as they come when you get to my age. I am quite happy with things on that score."
Sheringham has scored 20 goals this season but was on the bench on Tuesday with Andy Cole partnering Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the 1-0 Champions League quarter-final first-leg defeat by Bayern Munich.
With Dwight Yorke also in contention for a place up front, competition is fierce at United.
It could increase even more next season should Ruud van Nistelrooy eventually arrive from PSV Eindhoven.
The £18m deal was scrapped last year when the Dutchman suffered a cruciate ligament injury but he is now approaching full fitness and United have been monitoring his progress.
