Soccer: Footballers' case - jury resumes

The jury in the Leeds United footballers’ trial today resumed considering its verdicts.

The seven men and four women spent seven hours deliberating yesterday at Hull Crown Court before being sent home for the night.

Mr Justice Poole told them before they retired again to consider the counts of affray, grievous bodily harm and conspiracy one by one, and the evidence against each defendant in turn.

Leeds players Jonathan Woodgate, 21, Lee Bowyer, 24, and Woodgate’s friends Paul Clifford and Neale Caveney, both 21, deny causing grievous bodily harm to 20-year-old student Sarfraz Najeib in a street attack in Leeds in January last year.

They also plead not guilty to affray.

Woodgate, Clifford and Caveney, together with Leeds player Michael Duberry, 25, also deny conspiracy to pervert the course of justice by hiding potentially incriminating evidence after the attack.
