Soccer: Rangers renew Caniggia interest

Claudio Caniggia is set to be at the centre of an Old Firm battle in the summer.

Caniggia has been a revelation for Dundee during his first season in Scottish football and is a known target for Celtic boss Martin O'Neill.

And it now appears as though Rangers will also step up their interest after having a tentative enquiry spurned a month ago.

Even though Caniggia has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal after originally joining the Dens Park club on a short-term contract, Dundee would struggle to turn down a sizeable offer for the 33-year-old striker.

Manager Ivano Bonetti insists no approach has been made by Celtic, although after such intense speculation it would be a surprise if O'Neill did not make a move in the summer.

Meanwhile, Rangers chairman David Murray had this to say about Rangers interest in the striker.

"We showed some interest in Caniggia a month ago but nothing materialised at that stage," he said.

"He remains under contract at Dundee but we will be making changes in the summer and could do something then.

"Nothing will happen at the moment but we will review the situation in the next few months," Murray said.
