Soccer: Glenn return would be a Hod-send - Waddle

Chris Waddle believes Glenn Hoddle can bring the glory days back to Tottenham if he ends up in the White Hart Lane hotseat.

Waddle and Hoddle played together at Spurs and the former England winger, now 40 but still playing for non-league Worksop, is convinced the Southampton boss can revitalise the club following the sacking of George Graham.

"There is nobody who knows the Spurs tradition or the demands of their supporters better than Glenn," said Waddle.

"Spurs fans not only crave success they demand that they win things by playing attractive football.

"When it comes to flair and expression on the park, there is no better exponent of those qualities than Glenn himself," he said.

"Glenn has a deep feeling for the club. He spent 12 years there as a player and Spurs are in his blood. White Hart lane is definitely his spiritual home."

Hoddle’s future, however, is still undecided as talks continue over a proposed move back to Tottenham.

Tottenham approached the 42-year-old yesterday - and the former England manager and his agent Dennis Roach have held talks with the board.

Hoddle has made a real impact in a little over a year at Southampton. After keeping the Saints in the Premiership last season he has moved them up to eighth - their highest position in the Premiership for a decade - on the back of five successive victories.
