FA Cup: Houllier wary of Tranmere's cup record

Gerard Houllier has warned his Liverpool side of the potential pitfalls of their FA Cup quarter-final trip to Tranmere.

The First Division side have already caused one shock on Merseyside by beating Everton at Goodison Park.

And Houllier is determined that Liverpool do not suffer the same fate.

Houllier said: "They have already beaten Everton, so we have been warned."

He knows it will be a war of attrition against the First Division's bottom club who have the knack of producing stunning displays against the big boys.

Seven Premiership clubs have been battered into submission over the last 18 months in both domestic cup competitions, and now it is Liverpool's turn to face the ordeal of Prenton Park.

Houllier expects to be without Swiss defender Stephane Henchoz with a knee injury, but will have Jari Litmanen available and hopes Steven Gerrard and Danny Murphy will overcome their injury problems and play against John Aldridge's men.

German star Dietmar Hamann is suspended so Igor Biscan or Gary McAllister could replace him in midfield.

Meanwhile Tranmere striker Paul Rideout could be fit for the game after recovering from a thigh injury.

Rideout has missed the last three games after scoring a hat-trick in the fifth-round victory over Southampton.

But manager John Aldridge might decide to start with Wayne Allison, who scored in midweek.

Des Hamilton has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, while Wayne Gill is doubtful with an ankle problem.

Tranmere (from): Achterberg, Yates, Roberts, Jobson, Henry, Hinds, Gill, Allen, Koumas, Taylor, Parkinson, Barlow, Allison, Rideout, Murphy, Morgan, Challinor.
