Premiership: Smith poised to sign new Leeds deal

Alan Smith is poised to sign a new five-year deal with Leeds.

Alan Smith is poised to sign a new five-year deal with Leeds.

The striker still has three years to run on his current contract but chairman Peter Ridsdale wants to give him an improved deal.

Smith has played a key role in Leeds' Champions League success this season.

"Alan is very happy at Leeds and is going nowhere," Ridsdale said.

"Despite him having years to run on his present contract, we recognise what he has done and how much he has improved and want to reward him accordingly.

"I don't envisage any problems and I expect the offer to be accepted and signed very soon.

"We had our last talks with Michael Kennedy, Alan's representative, two weeks ago and we believe we have made an offer which is acceptable to both Alan and the Club."

The England Under 21 ace has scored 12 goals for Leeds so far this season, hitting half of those in the Champions League.
