Soccer: Burton: Promotion remains the priority

Terry Burton maintains Wimbledon must not let their FA Cup exploits distract

them from the main focus of winning promotion back to the Premiership.

Should the Dons overcome Wycombe Wanderers in tonight's fifth round replay at Selhurst Park, they will get the chance to test themselves against top-flight

opposition in Leicester City.

But Burton is quick to stress that while a good cup run is always welcome, the

Dons' main goal this season must be promotion.

``There are 17 games to go so there are enough points for us to still get

up,'' said Burton.

``We must win most of our games which is a tough task, but the points are

there so it is possible to get to the play-offs.''

Former Wimbledon favourite Lawrie Sanchez would like nothing better than to

knock his old side out of the competition his goal won for them back in 1988.

The Wycombe boss revealed that he urged his players to adopt the Crazy Gang

spirit which had served the Dons so well as they set about mounting a second

half revival on Saturday.

He said: ``I told the players `if we're going to lose, let's lose having a

go'. I said we might as well lose by three or four.''
