Soccer: Taylor dismisses move for Newton

Former Chelsea FA Cup winner Eddie Newton is unlikely to join the Leyton Orient.

Manager Tommy Taylor has dismissed the rumours although Newton has been training with Orient on a trial basis and played in a reserve match against Swindon last Wednesday.

However, Taylor insisted it was just a chance for the 29-year-old to impress other clubs.

He said: "He's done very well and is still training with us so he's getting fit and putting himself in the shop window".

The midfielder scored for the Blues in their 1997 FA Cup final success against Middlesbrough but his career has recently gone downhill.

Since leaving Stamford Bridge in 1999, Newton has had brief spells at Birmingham, Oxford, Barnet and Conference side Hayes.
