John Caulfield content as slick Cork City show no mercy to hapless Athlone

Cork City manager John Caulfield hopes that last night’s FAI Cup second round blowout against Athlone Town at Turner’s Cross will provide confidence to the team as they seek to clinch the league title.

With nine of the team who started Monday night’s important league win over Finn Harps, the cup holders were ahead inside two minutes and victory was never in doubt.

“Overall, it was a good workout,” Caulfield said, “nice to have a home game after the long trip to Finn Harps.
