The 34-year-old joined Kairat last March having been released from his contract at Kuban Krasnodar in February.
Kairat are one of several Kazakh teams enjoying substantial investment from billionaire oligarchs from the former Soviet Union
Owner Kairat Boranbayev, former director of Kazakh gas company KazRosGas, is the man behind McDonald’s move to the Central Asian state, and is bankrolling ambitious plans for the club.
This afternoon, those ambitions were stymied when another ex-Arsenal man Yossi Benayoun struck for Maccabi in the 90th minute, securing a precious away goal in a 1-1 draw.
Benayoun signed for Maccabi in 2014, after leaving QPR. He was a teammate of Arshavin’s at Arsenal during the 2011-12 season, when Benayoun joined on loan from Chelsea.
But it was during his spell at Liverpool that the much-travelled Israeli inspired the stat of the day from Culann Davies.

It is the first time he and Arshavin have scored in the same match since Arsenal’s spectacular 4-4 draw with Liverpool in April 2009.
Then Arshavin hit all four goals for the Gunners, while Benayoun headed Liverpool into a 2-1 lead.
