“It was just shocking news for us to see it this morning, and obviously our thoughts are with everybody who suffered. It’s horrendous,” Keane said at a lunchtime press conference.

Afterwards, he spoke about his belief that Ireland playing its part in what he hopes will be a memorable France 2016, is precisely what football’s role should be, after the terror attacks in Paris last year and now in the Belgian capital.
