Despite struggling in the first half, the Leesiders excelled after the break, and goals by Adam Idah and Andrew Greaney secured victory.

A stiff wind suited the visitors in the first half, and after Dylan Murphy dispossessed Andrew Cotter he looked certain to score, but fired over with only the keeper to beat.

Despite dominating possession, chances were thin for the Kingdom outfit; Paul O’Shea heading over Tadgh Doolan’s free in their only other notable chance before the break.

In the second half, Douglas were able to employ their quick countering style, and after threatening early on in the half, they eventually took the lead 50 minutes in, as Idah expertly turned Greaney’s inswinging corner home with his head.

Douglas had their tails up, and the second arrived eight minutes later; Adam Reilly’s free was spilled by Brendan’s keeper Mark Kelliher, and Greaney was on hand to put the rebound into the back of an empty net.

It looked like the game was coming to a quiet conclusion before Idah clashed with St Brendan’s captain O’Shea, sparking a melee which referee Pat Cambridge did well to keep a lid on, both parties going into the book.

Idah had a great chance to double his tally , but Kelliher did brilliantly to deny the striker.

It mattered little, however, and Douglas coach Seán Fahy can sleep easy, having finally delivered a cup for the Com in 2016.
