Home comforts again for Arsenal but Chelsea face Everton trip

Everton will face Chelsea in the pick of the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Roberto Martinez’s men progressed to the last eight with a 2-0 win at Bournemouth on Saturday, while Chelsea cruised to a 5-1 victory against a young Manchester City side at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

The last-eight clash is a repeat of the 2009 final in which Louis Saha opened the scoring for Everton after 25 seconds, only for goals from Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba to turn the match in Chelsea’s favour.

Chelsea’s current interim boss Guus Hiddink was also in charge for that match.

West Ham’s reward for a 5-1 win at Blackburn is a trip to Shrewsbury or Manchester United, who go head to head in the fifth round tonight.

The draw continues to be kind to holders Arsenal, with another home tie for Arsene Wenger’s side.

The Gunners will play Watford at the Emirates Stadium if they can get past Hull in a fifth-round replay at the KC Stadium. Of Arsenal’s 15-match unbeaten run in the competition, they have played just two away ties; last season’s visits to Brighton and Manchester United.

Of course, four of those games were played at Wembley, including last season’s extra-time win over Reading.

Standing between the Royals and a second Wembley semi-final in succession will be Crystal Palace, who will visit the Madejski Stadium in the other last-eight clash.

Matches will be played from March 11 to 14.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have vowed to ban for life any supporter identified as having throw coins on the pitch during the club’s FA Cup fifth round victory over Manchester City.

Referee Andre Marriner collected three coins off the pitch that had been thrown at Manchester City players celebrating a first-half equaliser in front of the home supporters.

The incident came 24 hours after West Bromwich Albion’s Chris Brunt was struck by a coin thrown by his own supporters following his side’s 3-1 defeat at Reading.

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink said: “We condemn it, and I condemn it strongly. Chelsea will react. Those people [responsible] they must not come into stadiums.”
