Focused Claudio Ranieri in for the long haul at Leicester City

Claudio Ranieri has underlined his desire to create a Leicester legacy as he eyes a return to European football.

The boss insists he is at the King Power Stadium for the long haul as they aim to keep shocking the top flight.

Leicester are second in the Premier League having lost just once this season ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Swansea.

Including the Foxes the Italian has had eight jobs in 11 years since leaving Chelsea in 2004 — never lasting more than two years — but after maintaining their surprise top four challenge Ranieri wants to break that pattern.

“Yes, I came here because I want to stay here a long time,” he said.

“I think what I achieved (past European qualification) is good and I want to get back there. To play in Europe or the Champions League is fantastic and I want to help my players and my team to achieve this goal, but slowly.

“You have to be solid at the beginning and know each other very well and then we can go there.”

The 64-year-old has also insisted he is not looking to seriously strengthen in the January transfer window.

The Foxes also have no intention of selling the league’s 14-goal top scorer Jamie Vardy with the 28-year-old having scored in 11 straight games, a new Premier League record.

Several of Leicester’s fringe players — including Andrej Kramaric and Gokhan Inler — may look for loan moves but Ranieri wants to protect his dressing room.

“Now is a very good time for us and I don’t need anybody because everybody is working very well,” he said.

“At the moment, I don’t want anyone. We are working well, why change?”
