Richie Towell claims PFAI award
The midfielder’s drive and goals were an integral part of Dundalk’s double-winning season, with his contribution recognised by the votes of his peers in the League of Ireland.
Also feted at the ceremony held at the Gibson Hotel was Lilywhites’ boss Stephen Kenny, who for the second year on the trot claimed the Manager of the Year prize.
Brandon Miele’s impressive first season back in Ireland with Shamrock Rovers won him the Young Player of the Year award while 30-goal striker Danny Furlong from Wexford Youths picked up the First Division gong.
Wes Hoolahan won the Overseas Player category. Also honoured was former Sunday Independent football correspondent Sean Ryan with a Special Merit award.
Ireland assistant manager Keane was joined by former Ireland rugby captain Brian O’Driscoll as guests of honour at the event. Keane has undertaken to assist in the training camp to be held in January for unemployed players. Over 90% of players operate on 42-week contracts over the year.
