FAI Cup Final: Battered Dunleavy eyes final fairytale

With his boyish features and lean frame, Johnny Dunleavy could easily pass for younger than his 24 years. But, a bit like the picture in the attic, you suspect x-ray vision would reveal an altogether more battered and battle-hardened reality.

Ask the Cork City skipper to catalogue his extensive injury toll, and the reply is matter of fact.

“It’s like a shopping list,” he says. “I broke my foot twice, I tore the ligaments in both of my ankles, I did the medial ligament in my right knee, I did the cartilage in my left knee. I tore my hip flexor and I broke my cheekbone.”
