Galway were brave initially, but were eventually overpowered by Stephen Kenny’s stylish side, who closed out the game with the minimum of fuss.

With the Tribesmen ravaged by injuries, Dundalk were keen to make a decent start, as Galway goalkeeper Ger Hanley was forced to make a save to deny Richie Towell after only 30 seconds.
