Arsene Wenger answers Chelsea’s cash taunts

The season is yet to start but Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho are already point scoring, with Wenger yesterday rejecting claims from the Chelsea manager that Arsenal have abandoned their cautious transfer approach.

The Frenchman’s retort comes after the Gunners signed Petr Cech from the Blues earlier this season — reportedly against Mourinho’s wishes — and amid a flurry of rumours and reports that Real Madrid’s French striker Karim Benzema could be on his way to the Emirates.

Mourinho has suggested totting up Arsenal’s spending in the last two years leads to a “surprise”, resuming his sparring with Gunners boss Wenger.
