Stephanie Roche relishing link-up with Sunderland

Republic of Ireland ladies international striker Stephanie Roche says she can’t wait to get started after completing a move to Sunderland AFC Ladies yesterday.

The 26-year-old, who was named as the runner up for the 2014 Fifa Puskas Award for goal of the year, arrives on Wearside after penning a deal with the Lady Black Cats. The forward joins Sunderland after a short spell in the US with Houston Dash.

Dubliner Roche said: “It’s great to be at Sunderland Ladies and I can’t wait to get started. I know there is a high standard in WSL 1 and it’s something I’m looking forward to being a part of.

“The team have done really well this season and hopefully I can play my part too.”

Roche has made 40 appearances for her country to date, having made her debut in 2008.

Roche could be in line to make her debut against Notts County Ladies on Sunday, July 12.
