Bafetembi Gomis okay after collapse evokes Fabrice Muamba memories

Gomis has a history of suffering dizzy spells and fainting because of incidents known as vasovagal attacks, where a loss of blood flow to the brain leads to collapse. Last night’s attack happened after just seven minutes as Swansea were preparing to restart the game following Nacer Chadli’s opening goal for Tottenham.

Gomis fell to the ground and, with memories of Muamba’s life-threatening collapse here in an FA Cup tie still fresh in the memory, the paramedics sprinted on to the pitch. Gomis received attention for four minutes before being taken off on a stretcher, by which time he was conscious and able to move.
