He was serving secretary of the Limerick County & District Underage League and was appointed chairman of the Schoolboys FAI in 2014. He had previously been vice-chairman of the SFAI since 2011.

FAI chief executive John Delaney said: “I was really great friends with Tim for many years, particularly in his role with the Limerick County league. He joined the board of the FAI recently and we are deeply saddened that he only had a short time on our board. He could and would have made an outstanding contribution. My condolences to all his family, his mother and all relatives. There’ll be a special tribute to him at the Poland game in recognition for all he’s done for the game and we will posthumously present a services to football award at our AGM this year.”
Mr Fitzgerald is survived by mother Josephine, brothers John, Pat, Martin, Colman and Jason and sisters Siobhan and Vera. He is predeceased by father Tadhg. He will be sadly missed by his friends within and outside the game.
