Ronaldo wins player of the year accolade

Cristiano Ronaldo has ended 2014 in style by collecting the Best Player of the Year accolade at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai last night

Ronaldo broke the record for goals in a single Champions League season as he led Real Madrid to their 10th title, while maintaining a better than a goal per game ratio in five years in Spain.

Ronaldo is the favourite to claim the Fifa Ballon d’Or for the second year in a row, and his third time overall. The Portuguese star faces competition from Barcelona’s Argentina star Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer for the prize, which is announced on January 12.
